The country has 200 million inhabitants. Tua has mineral resources and oil reserves. The country also has a large technology industry (the second largest in the world). Tua manufactures and sells software, electronic equipment, semiconductors, hardware, IT services, and communication equipment. The tech industry accounts for 30 percent of the GDP. Tua’s citizens typically enjoy a high standard of living. The country has a GDP of 2 trillion dollars. Dense cities and record-setting high risers make public transportation a must. Most of Tua’s population is urban, with about a third of them using public transport.
Tua has an authoritarian government, and citizens are oppressed. Freedom of speech is non-existent, and the government largely influences all aspects of citizens’ lives. Recently, the poorest part of Tua, the West (40 percent of the population), has started to revolt against the government. They want President Sam Devile to step down and reform the country to become a parliamentary democracy. Because of the distrust in the government, citizens don’t read official media sources anymore. They mostly get their news from social media and alternative news resources. The republic first experienced a corona outbreak in January 2021. The amount of cases is around 5 million now. The mortality rate is high, 10 percent. This is because of large-scale fake news campaigns launched in the country about alternative therapies, such as drinking bleach or eating soap with acid. Many desperate infected people tried out these therapies and died. Citizens don’t trust traditional hospitals because the government controls them. The country does have a sound health care system, but it is expensive to get treatments. Only about 80 percent of citizens can afford to pay their hospital and insurance bills. The government offers little support to people without resources. The country’s hospitals are overwhelmed, and many healthcare workers want to quit their jobs. The country is heavily dependent on its neighbors for imports and exports.
