The Flora Kingdom

The Flora Kingdom is a democratic monarchy. It has a population of approximately 1 million people. As an Island economy, Flora’s economy is primarily dependent on tourism. When Covid hit the island, Flora’s economy was crippled. Apart from tourism, the country also survives by exporting agricultural products such as pineapple and aloe. Flora also has some gold mines and exports a small amount of oil. The country’s GDP is 5 billion.

Citizens of Flora are not wealthy, but they enjoy a high degree of liberty. The government guarantees freedom of speech and cares for the welfare of its citizens. Flora first experienced a corona outbreak in March 2020. The amount of cases is around 100000 now. The mortality rate is high, 15 percent. The country does have a sound health care system, and healthcare is accessible. About 90 percent of citizens can afford to pay their hospital and insurance bills. The problem is that there are no more hospital beds available. Many healthcare workers quit their jobs or want to leave the island. The country is heavily dependent on the neighboring countries for imports and exports.

Cost of providing PPE: 10 dollars per person/month
Cost of shutting down the international borders for one month: 40% less national income
